About Energy Efficiency
A core principle of sustainability is energy efficiency: reducing wasted energy from inefficient technology, and heat losses can put money right back on the bottom line. As energy prices are set to increase significantly over the next few years this has never been more important to businesses in the UK.
Whether you are retrofitting an existing facility or considering a new build, DC21 can help you to make the right choices on technology such as lighting, heating, mechanical handling equipment, etc to increase your energy efficiency. To find out more about energy efficiency please contact us.
Aggregated STOR
In simple terms STOR (STrategic Operating Reserve) helps you save money by assisting the National Grid (NG) to manage the fluctuating loads placed upon the electricity grid in the UK.
About STOR
STOR allows NG to reduce the amount of standby/peaking capacity and so reduces their costs. The scheme works by NG paying STOR participants for offering to switch off loads at peak consumption periods – there are 3 peak periods per day, these coincide with the domestic breakfast, lunch, and dinner periods. To find out more contact us.
STOR Participant Terms and Conditions
NG offer STOR to users with 3MW loads and above, DC21 work with a major utility company to allow the aggregation of many smaller loads to get the 3MW threshold – Aggregated STOR.
To participate in Aggregated STOR a site would usually need at load of at least 100kW that can be switched off for it to be worthwhile.
STOR Worth (£)
How much the scheme will be worth to your business will depend on how much load you can offer, across how many sites, and for which peak periods. But 1MW of aggregated load is usually worth around £30k per year. To find out more please contact us.
Opting out of STOR
At any time you can elect not to participate without penalty – you just loose your payment. Also, you are being paid to offer to turn off a load, you won’t always be called upon, but would still get the payment.
STOR Carbon Savings
Potential for carbon savings: There are no ratified figures at this time, but peak power generation generally produces more CO2 than steady state power generation. But your green credentials are improved through helping to reduce the Nation Grid’s CO2 emissions.
